Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions from pensioners.

A Life Certificate is an official document confirming you are alive and eligible to continue receiving your pension. It must be submitted once per year, in the month of your birthday. It can be submitted online via MyPensions+, at our office at 21 Dominica Drive, Kingston 5, or at a Mobile Drive in your parish. Failure to submit will suspend your pension payments.
Government pensions are paid on the last working day of each month. If that day falls on a weekend or public holiday, payment is made on the preceding working day.
Your pension is calculated at 1/540 of your pensionable salary, multiplied by each complete month of service. For example: if your final salary is $1,200,000 per year and you served for 360 months (30 years), your annual pension = (1,200,000 ÷ 540) × 360 = $800,000 per year.
Visit the Pensions Division at 21 Dominica Drive, Kingston 5 in person with a valid government-issued photo ID and a recent bank statement or letter showing your account number. For security, bank detail changes cannot be processed by phone or email. Address changes and agent appointments require your signature witnessed by a Justice of Peace.
An alimentary allowance is a provisional pension paid while your full pension is being finalised. It is typically processed within 2–3 weeks of retirement and requires no audit verification initially. Your monthly pension commences on the next payday after you are entered into the pension system.
Yes. Pensioners aged 55 and over are eligible for the Government Pensioners Administrative Services Only (GPASO) health insurance plan, administered through Sagicor Life Jamaica. The Government covers 90% of the premium and you pay 10%. Both individual and family coverage are available.
