The Accountant General’s Department (AGD) is an operational department within Jamaica’s Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, functioning as the nation’s Treasury. Our motto — “Service with excellence… Touching the life of every Jamaican” — reflects our commitment to every citizen we serve.

Our Primary Functions

The AGD is charged with facilitating and reporting on the flow of funds to and from the Consolidated Fund — Jamaica’s principal instrument for Parliamentary control of public finances.


  • Managing the Consolidated Fund — the central account through which all government receipts and payments are made

  • Administering pension payments for approximately 40,000 retired government employees and their dependants

  • Processing payroll for 17 government ministries and departments

  • Administering public debt servicing and maintaining comprehensive government financial records

  • Managing Treasury Deposits and government shareholdings in statutory bodies and companies

  • Providing seven public loan products to Government of Jamaica employees at a maximum 3% interest rate

  • Preparing financial statements and providing technical financial advice to senior government officials
